What Are The Applications Of Quantum Dot Film?

Dec 09, 2021

Nowadays, whether it is to compete with OLED displays or within the liquid crystal display industry, it is necessary to adopt quantum dot technology to increase the color gamut and improve the display effect. So what are the applications of quantum dot film?

Quantum dot film application

Quantum dot films can be used in TV, commercial displays, electronic blackboards, laptops, PADs, car displays, mobile phones and other fields. Taking the quantum dot liquid crystal TV as an example, its backlight structure is divided into a direct type and an edge type.

Mid-to-high-end TVs usually adopt an edge-lit backlight structure. After the introduction of quantum dot film technology, the general structure is "reflective sheet/light guide plate/quantum dot film/BEF/DBEF/upper diffuser/liquid crystal cell".

Due to the use of blue light excitation, the original white LED light bar needs to be replaced with a blue LED light bar. Generally, a blue LED light bar with a dominant wavelength in the range of 445-450nm is recommended. The industrial chain of quantum dot liquid crystal displays is basically the same as that of traditional liquid crystal displays, and its module production process is basically the same as that of traditional liquid crystal displays. The main difference is the addition of a quantum dot film to the module structure.

It is relatively simple to use quantum dot film to upgrade the performance of traditional LCDs, and the cost increase is relatively low. The color gamut of the display can reach 110% or even higher, thereby achieving a substantial increase in display performance at a lower cost.
