QLED Quantum Dot Display Technology's Characteristics And Advantages
Dec 08, 2021
Quantum dot display technology, quantum dot light emitting diode (QLED), is a new type of technology between liquid crystal and OLED, and its core technology is Quantum
Dots (quantum dots). Quantum dots have light-emitting properties. The smaller the diameter, the smaller the wavelength of light after excitation (blue); the larger the diameter, the longer the wavelength of light after excitation (reddish). With this characteristic, the size of quantum dots can be controlled to emit light in three colors: blue, green, and red. It is even possible to mix quantum dot materials with different diameters to produce continuous spectrum light similar to sunlight and natural light. Quantum dots of different diameters show different colors under the irradiation of ultraviolet light.
In quantum dot LCD TVs, according to the peculiar light-emitting characteristics of quantum dots, the quantum dots in the quantum dot film generate red and green light under the illumination of blue LED backlight, and mix with the rest of the blue light passing through the film to obtain white light. Improve the luminous effect of the entire backlight system and present a superb picture.
Compared with traditional LCD TVs, quantum dot display technology has better imaging effects
The reason why quantum dot display technology is currently widely concerned and highly respected by people is of course inseparable from its greater advantages compared to traditional LCD TVs. LCD TVs using quantum dot display technology have many characteristics such as high color accuracy, more stable pictures, and lower cost. In addition, it also solves the problem of "black is not black" in traditional LCD TVs. On this basis, there is no reason why quantum dot display technology should not attract attention.
High color accuracy
The unique advantages of quantum dot QLED display technology can effectively increase the brightness of the TV by 30-40%. When the color conversion efficiency of the backlight system is greatly improved, the color of the screen is brighter, taking into account the characteristics of energy saving and environmental protection, and the brightness and color purity of the screen are WLED About 2 times of the backlight system, the performance improvement is very obvious.
Application of quantum dot display technology
How to apply quantum dots to LCD panels is the most critical issue for realizing quantum dot TVs. Currently, there are three ways to integrate quantum dots into LCD panels: the first is to directly replace yellow phosphors with quantum dots and package them directly with blue LEDs (On-Chip); the second is to put them in a vacuum process. In the glass tube, the glass tube is arranged between the backlight and the panel (On-Edge); the third is to directly make a thin film containing quantum dots to replace the current On-Surface in the LCD panel.
Lower cost
In addition to display advantages, the use of quantum dot QLED display technology will also make manufacturing costs lower. This technology puts the optical material of quantum dots between the backlight and the liquid crystal panel, which can make the color gamut reach or exceed the level of OLED, and even eliminate the polarizer on the light source side, effectively reducing the manufacturing cost of liquid crystal display products.
Since quantum dots themselves are also an organic material, the material will deteriorate rapidly when exposed to air. In addition, organic materials have limited heat resistance, and if they are adjacent to components that emit high heat, they are likely to cause material degradation. This is also where the development process of quantum dot display technology needs to be optimized in the future.
