The Industry Claims That The New Mini LED-backlit LCD Panel Technology Is Mature
Dec 20, 2018
According to industry insiders, the mini LED technology is mature enough. The panel maker has entered mass production in the second half of this year, but has not yet reached mass production. It is reported that the mini LED backlight technology of LCD IPS displays may become a change in the industry.

According to sources, LCD screens with LED backlight technology are far superior to today's LCD monitors in terms of brightness, contrast, color reproduction and energy saving, and can even compete with AMOLEDs while controlling production costs. As the number of LEDs used for panel backlighting has increased dramatically, the new technology can also greatly improve the HDR performance of LCD screens. In the case of a standard smartphone, a 5-inch mobile phone display contains approximately 25 LED units, while a mini LED backlight can contain 9,000 to 10,000 units. This will result in better HDR performance due to finer control.
OLED panels are still better because they can dim individual pixels, but mini LED-backlit displays still meet the extreme requirements of handling local dimming when displaying HDR content. Even better, the new screen can also compete with AMOLED displays in terms of thickness.
Looking ahead, the Mini LED backlight panel is the basis for future Micro LED backlight panels, which are still difficult to produce due to the hassle of repair and the need to adjust the CRI (Color Rendering Index) to match the current existing display. If these problems are solved, the micro LED technology will eventually combine the advantages of OLED and LCD.
