The development trend of optical film for backlight module is similar to that of LCD: both will tend to be high brightness, thin, lightweight, and high color gamut.

According to the statistics and forecasts of Display Search, with the continuous increase in the global market demand for liquid crystal modules, the global market demand for optical films for liquid crystal displays will also show a steady growth trend. The market demand will reach 720 million square meters, of which the market demand for reflective film, diffuser film, brightness enhancement film, microlens optical film and double brightness enhancement film will reach 184 million square meters, 184 million square meters, 204 million square meters, 76 million square meters and 71 million square meters.

The optical film of backlight module covers reflective film, light guide plate, diffuser film, light enhancement film, composite film, quantum dot enhancement film, reflective incremental composite film, etc. redistribution and achieve a specific purpose of use.

The most important function of the diffusion film is to provide a uniform surface light source for the liquid crystal display, and it also has a certain brightness enhancement effect, referred to as BEF, which is a key component in the TFT-LCD backlight module. A good PET surface is made of acrylic resin, and a layer of optical film with a uniform prism pattern is precisely formed.

With the continuous increase in the global market demand for LCD modules, the global market demand for diffusion films for LCD displays will also show a steady growth trend. It is estimated that by 2017, the global market demand for diffusion films for LCD backlight modules will reach 290 million square meters, an increase of 20 million square meters compared with 2016, an increase of about 7%.

In simple terms, optical composite film is to concentrate two or more optical functions on one film. It is driven by several of its development trends and needs: Now the LCD screen is getting bigger and bigger, and it is not only thin and light, but also the brightness effect. The advantages of the composite film are: small thickness and low cost, while its disadvantages are the decrease in brightness (the prismatic peak is damaged, the light-gathering ability is reduced; the adhesive absorbs part of the light), and the difficulty of the process is increased.

Brightness-enhancing polarizers can be reused through the light loss of polarizers, recovering at least 50% of the light loss.

2017 is the first year of quantum dots. Recently, I have started to come into contact with this term. There are many quantum dot upgrade products for ordinary liquid crystal displays. What is the real meaning of this product? In fact, the current quantum dot TV is LCD TV + quantum dots. A kind of point backlight film, its ability is still LCD TV. Of course, quantum dots themselves emit light, so in fact, imaging can be achieved only by using quantum dot materials, but this product is still very immature.

Quantum dots are nano-scale fluorescent materials, which themselves have luminescent properties. The quantum dots in the quantum dot high color gamut film will generate red and green light under the illumination of the blue LED backlight, and mix with the blue light that partially penetrates the film. get white light.

Although the QLED camp constantly emphasizes that the color saturation is superior to OLED, and there is no problem of service life, at this stage, due to the poor external quantum efficiency, it is difficult to maintain long-term light emission, and it is still difficult for a truly self-illuminating QD display to reach the commercial level.

Therefore, in the short term, the QLED camp will still use QD backlight products to challenge, that is, a film covered with quantum dots is laid on the backlight, commonly known as QDEF.

By improving the color gamut and backlight efficiency through the luminous properties of quantum dots, the color and brightness of the screen are enhanced, and the color effect produced is at least 30%-50% higher. However, since the backlight is a necessary component, it will increase the thickness of the whole machine, so the advantages compared with OLEDTV are not obvious, so the new generation of QLEDTV may adopt the solution of glass light guide plate to reduce the thickness.
