What is a polarizer sheet?

Dec 01, 2021

Polarizer sheet is one of the components of the liquid crystal module. It can be said that any display module must be applied to the polarizer. It is widely used in mobile phones, tablet computers, notebook computers, monitors, TVs, CNC displays, 3C fields, and beauty Medical, industrial applications, entertainment applications, vehicle display and other fields. Even more fields are gradually adopting polarizers, such as car glasses, money printing machines, 3D glasses and indoor and outdoor billboards, all of which are used in polarizers.

The polarizing sheet is the key part of the polarizing sheet, which is sandwiched by two protective films to form the polarizing sheet .

The polarizing filter is a chemically active soft plastic transparent plastic board (generally PVA) soaked in an I2/K aqueous solution. Within a few seconds, many iodide ions are absorbed and penetrated into the inner PVA. After slight heat , Manually or mechanically stretched to several times the length, the PVA board also becomes longer, narrower and thinner.

At first, the molecular structure of PVA was distributed irregularly at random angles. After stretching, the molecular structure of PVA gradually deflected to the direction of force, and the iodide ions adhered to the PVA changed into a long chain of iodide ions according to the angle.

Considering that iodide ions have very good polarization properties, it can absorb the electric field component of the beam parallel to its arrangement direction, and then only let the electric field component of the beam in the vertical direction pass.

Using this working principle, a polarizing film is produced, and the produced polarizing film is covered with two protective films to form a polarizer.

The angle of the polarizer depends on the directionality of the iodide ions on the PVA, that is, when we are stretching, and when two polarizers with the same angle are stacked on top of each other, the light transmittance will follow the polarizer. The angle of intersection changes, and when they are perpendicular to each other, the light will be completely absorbed.

Generally speaking, the categories of polarizers can be divided into: conventional polarizers, special polarizers and composite polarizers.

Conventional polarizers include: IPS polarizers, TV polarizers, EWV polarizers

IPS polarizer: Full viewing angle polarizer, in view of the full viewing angle and high transmission characteristics, it is often used in high-end electronic display fields, such as mobile phones, notebooks, high-end TVs and other applications;

TV polarizer: Near full viewing angle polarizer, which is a bit smaller than IPS, and has high transmission characteristics. It is often used in the field of general electronic television. The most iconic is the TV screen. For this reason, it is called TV polarizer, the price is slightly lower than IPS;

EWV polarizer: Ultra-wide viewing angle polarizer. The viewing angle is not as wide as that of IPS and TV. It is characterized by thickness. Compared with thin IPS, it has a thickness of 0.22mm and is often used in vehicle displays.

Special polarizers include: anti-glare film, privacy film, anti-scratch film and VA film (the company's existing special film).

The field of anti-glare film is relatively wide, and it is basically the same as that of IPS, that is, if there is this anti-glare requirement, it will be adopted;

Anti-peep film, as the name implies, a polarizer that prevents prying eyes can block light in a certain direction from passing through and prevent others from peeping through the screen. It is widely used in banking self-service terminals, ATM machines and other privacy products;

Anti-scratch film, a polarizer with a certain hardness that can prevent scratches and damage on the surface (note: it is not invulnerable!) Generally, it is mostly used in 3C digital products;

VA film is more special. It is a kind of TV film. It is not a special film, but compared to TV film, it will be darker than TV film, the corresponding display effect will be better, and the contrast will be higher. Some.

Composite polarizers include: brightening film, extra white film, semi-transparent film and reflective film.

Brightness enhancement film, covering a layer of brightness enhancement film (mirror film) on the polarizer to achieve the effect of improving the display brightness;

Extra white film, polarizer with white background;

Semi-transmissive sheet, also known as semi-transmissive and semi-reflective sheet. The market is generally divided into: low transmission film, medium transmission film, and high transmission film;

Reflective films are generally divided into yellow film and gray film on the market.
