What does the optical film material of high brightness LCD consist of?
Nov 09, 2022
When it comes to high-brightness LCD, what is the key material? In order to make an LCD with high brightness, the optical film is necessary. This film has a lot of functions, such as light transmission, reflection, and scattering. The article will introduce the main component of the optical film and its influence on the display effect.
High-brightness LCD optical film materials include reflective sheets, quantum dot films, a diffuser sheet, light enhancement sheet, DBEF, and composite film.
Reflective sheet

Reflective panels are composed of transparent panels capable of producing reflections through their backside. It has very few surface defects, high flatness, 98% reflectivity, and good thermal stability. This type of sheet is also used for various other applications, such as billboards, road signs, traffic light reflectors, etc. The main advantage of using this type of sheet is that it can be seen from a distance, even in low-light conditions.
Quantum Dot Film

Quantum dot film is a relatively new technology that is being used in a variety of different applications. In the area of displays, quantum dot films are able to convert a large portion of the blue light emitted by the backlight into pure red and green light. This in turn improves the color gamut coverage of the display and restores color. In addition, quantum dot films are also being used in solar cells, where they are able to increase the efficiency of light absorption and improve the overall power output of the cell. As quantum dot technology continues to develop, it is likely that we will see even more applications for this versatile material.
Diffuser sheet

The diffuser sheet consists of a three-layer structure, including a scratch-resistant layer at the bottom, a transparent PET substrate layer in the middle, and a diffusion layer at the top.
Diffusion sheet is a new high-performance optical material that converts point light source or line light source into the surface light source by curing optical glue into a pre-designed optical structure diffusion layer on PET substrate by a precision coating method, so that light is diffused through the diffusion coating to make the distribution of light uniform.
Lower diffuser sheet: 1. high shading; 2. high brightness; 3. anti-scratch. Haze: 86~95%; transmittance: 70~95%.
Upper diffuser sheet: 1. High transmittance; 2. High brightness; 3. Anti-scratch Haze: 40~85%; light transmittance: 96~99%.
Prism sheet

Prism sheet is a new type of high-performance optical film due to the characteristic of their microscopic prismatic array structure on the exterior. The light enhancement film product is a new high-performance optical material that cures optical glue into a pre-designed optical micro-prism structure coating on a PET substrate through a precision-coated structural micro-replication method and uses the convergence effect of the micro-prism structure on light to focus scattered light toward the front side, thus serving to enhance the overall brilliance and uniformity for LCD panels.
Composite film
The application of optical functional films in liquid crystal displays (LCDs) has rapidly increased in recent years due to their excellent optical properties. Among them, the composite film is a multi-functional optical film material that uses the composite process to achieve a variety of different optical films (2 or 3 kinds) assembled into a single film. The advantages of the composite film are that it can achieve the overall thinness and cost reduction of the LCD module on the premise of ensuring its optical performance, while the application of composite film structure can also increase the backlight module assembly yield, reduce assembly time, and improve production efficiency while saving labor costs. Therefore, the use of composite films is the inevitable development trend of optical functional films for LCDs. In addition, the use of composite films can also help to improve the light efficiency of LCDs and make them more energy-efficient.
