LED backlight classification how to divide
Apr 06, 2022
When it comes to the division of LED backlighting classification, it is important to first understand what LED backlighting means. LED backlighting refers to the use of LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) as the backlighting source for LCDs. Compared with the traditional CCFL (cold cathode tube) backlight, LED has low power consumption, low heat generation, high brightness, long life, etc.
Currently, this LED backlight classification can be divided into RGB-LED and white LED. the former utilizes the capability of dynamic zoning backlight technology and the excellent light source of tri-color RGB-LED, which provides a qualitative leap in color and contrast compared with traditional backlight. As a result, it is usually suitable for high quality TV products and generally costs more than $3W. The latter is a relatively common LED backlight source, also widely used in notebook computers and LCD monitors. White LED backlighting usually uses light ingested from the edge of the display, which is different from RGB-LED and traditional backlighting with direct backlighting.
1, According to the incidence position of LED backlight: LED backlight modules are divided into two types according to the incidence position of the light source: straight-down and side-light, which can be roughly divided into straight-down RGB-LED, straight-down white LED and side-light white LED, etc.
2, the difference between RGB-LED and white LED: RGB-LED color gamut performance is slightly better, the disadvantage is that the cost is higher. White LED light source, although slightly lower than RGB-LED in color gamut, has a relatively high contrast ratio and the technical cost that RGB-LED cannot match.
3, the difference between straight down and side LED backlight: LED side light source emits light from both sides of the body and projects light onto the panel through the built-in high transmittance light guide. Limit the thickness of the LCD is the thickness of fluorescent lamps. The side light source is located at the projection position on both sides, so it does not occupy the space of the TV thickness.
Compared with the side light source, the direct down backlight LED can dynamically control the backlight, making it possible to display a high-quality image effect with natural contrast between light and dark by adjusting only part of the light illumination in the desired backlight area (black or dark part of the screen) when representing some images of dark scenes.
