8K Association Announced The 8K TV Key Performance Attributes
Nov 01, 2019
More and more manufacturers are selling 8K TVs or will soon have relevant models on the market. Before IFA 2019, 8K Association, including members of Samsung Electronics, Samsung display, Panasonic, Intel, Hisense and TCL, released the "performance specifications" of consumer grade 8K TVs.
They promote this specification to HDR, color performance and a series of display performance to ensure that customers can expect the corresponding content when they see the TV with its logo, and are conducting a consistency test.
Relevant specifications include:
Resolution: 7680 x 4320 pixels
Input frame rate: 24P, 30p and 60p frames per second
Display brightness: peak brightness over 600 nit
Codec: hevc
Interface: HDMI 2.1
These are publicly listed requirements, while the details available to members include "8K input parameters (bit depth, frame rate, color sampling), display performance (resolution, peak brightness, black level, gamut, white dot), and interface and media format (high dynamic range, codec).
"We want to see more of these TVs being promoted and consumers need a reason to upgrade, not just changes in pixel and resolution indicators," said the head of the agency. Obviously these specifications may be the key to driving new display technologies, just as HDR played a role when 4K began to appear.
